Microsoft Endowed Scholarship: A Gift that Spans Generations

In 2007, alumni and friends of the BYU CS Department in and near Microsoft raised funds to support 4 students and begin an endowment.  Half of the funds were used to support students now, the other half has been placed in an endowment which will continue to support students over the long term.

We have prepared a brief report which summarizes the mentored learning experiences of each students supported by the scholarship this academic year.

We'd like to thank all of those who contributed in the 2007 campaign and we'd like to thank Microsoft and the BYU Presdient's Leadership Council (PLC).  Microsoft's generous matching of your contributions is greatly appreciated.

Students were selected to receive scholarships based on personal worthiness, academic achievement, and ability within the discipline. Scholarship recipients are selected from a pool of students who have already begun mentored research with a Computer Science professor. Working within existing mentoring relationships ensures that scholarships support students with demonstrated potential.

We invite you to make a permanent investment in the gifted and dedicated students at BYU by helping to create an endowed scholarship. Your gift will leave a permanent legacy and benefit students for generations to come and allow you to experience the joy of blessing young people and the countless others they will touch throughout their lives.  A full-tuition scholarship endowment of $80,000 provides $3,600 a year for tuition.

How to participate

To participate you will need to identify yourself and your contribution to both Microsoft and BYU.  By doing so, your contribution will be matched by both Microsoft and the BYU President's Leadership Council (PLC).  These matches will multiply your contribution three-fold (subject to certain limitations, of course).

To receive the matching contribution from Microsoft, specify "Brigham Young University" as the donation recipient on the Microsoft Matching Gifts web site. Then, in the "other information" box, indicate that your donation should be directed to the Microsoft Scholarship for Computer Science (see example).
